In a career spanning close to thirty years, alto, baritone and soprano saxophonist André Larue has led a number of bands, including the Crocodiles, Organic Jazz and the Quintette André Larue, with which he won the Oliver Jones Award in 1995. His sextet made up of Québec’s finest jazzmen, remains one of his greatest achievements. With Michel Côté on tenor sax, Louis Lepage bugle, Renaud Paquet on contrabass, Vincent Gagnon piano and Raynald Drouin on drums, they released their debut album Larue du Jazz, in 2007 to popular and critical acclaim. Inspired by the hard bop sound of the 1950s and 60s, the Sextet André Larue plays original and inspiring works composed by its leader. With its simple and catchy arrangements and a touch of swing, their sound follows in the finest traditions of jazz.
