Since his beginnings with the group Tony! Toni! Toné!, Raphael Saadiq has never hidden his love for classic R&B/soul, although each of his albums gives him the opportunity to explore new avenues. So he can invite members of Sly & the Family Stone and of Earth, Wind & Fire to work with him in the studio, and also collaborate with more “contemporary” artists like Joss Stone and Jay-Z.
Saadiq’s use of the classic/modern duality makes him stand out and earns him the right to share the stage with Motown superstar Stevie Wonder.
