One of the things people like most about the Festival is discovering an artist with exceptional talent at the very beginning of their career, just before they hit the road to mainstream success.
Take Lisa LeBlanc, for example. A small number of festival-goers are undoubtedly glad they arrived early for the William Deslauriers and Ian Kelly show in 2011. The Acadian from Rosaireville opened the show with some songs that earned her top honours at the Festival de Granby the previous year.
Since then, Lisa LeBlanc has immortalized her unique poetry in folk trash music with the help of Karkwa’s Louis-Jean Cormier, was named Discovery of the Year by ADISQ and had a gold record. And now she’s headlining an evening at the Parc de la Francophonie. Not bad for someone who was discovered singing “Aujourd'hui, ma vie c'est d'la marde!”
